Lionel Messi: Retires from the International Football



Argentina forward and the world best striker of the football decide to retire from the international football after losing the fourth major final in the last nine years. The Argentinean striker misses the penalty shootout against the Chile in the final match of the Copa America. The 29 years old said that it’s not meant for me as the national team is over for me, I have done what I can it always hurts me as not be a champion. Messi’s only honor with the national team is the gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

In 2014 FIFA World Cup final Argentina was beaten by the Germany 1 – 0 in the world cup final before the two consecutive final defeats from the Chile on penalties in the Copa America finals. Messi was also on the losing side in 2007 against the Brazil in Copa America final. He added that I tried best in all the four finals; it was the desperately thing which I wanted the most but I think it’s over and I couldn’t get it. Messi with Barcelona has won the 4 Champion League titles and the 8 La Liga titles.


The world best striker also added that in my opinion it is best for everyone and I also thing that there a number of peoples who are not satisfied and obviously want this, as we all are not satisfied this as reaching in the final but not ended up as the champion.  It is very hard for me to take the decision but now the decision is taken and I will not try anymore and there will be no any reason to going back.

Messi has hit the ball five times in the opponent net in the tournament including the outstanding free-kick against the hosts USA in the semi-final to become the top scorer of the country with the 55 goals. After Sunday’s final match which ended 0 – 0 in the 120 minutes and Chile won the final on penalties. Messi miss the first attempt in the shootout and the Lucas Biglia also missed the penalty form the 12 yards.

Copa America Cup usually takes place after every four years but it was an extra addition of the tournament to celebrate the century of the tournament. Lionel Messi has made his international debut in 2005 and has total 113 appearances. For his club team Barcelona he scored 453 goals in 531 appearances including the record of 312 goals in the La Liga. Messi has won the world best player award Ballon d’Or for 5 times. In 2014 FIFA World Cup he was names as the best player of the tournament.

Sergio Romero the goalkeeper of both the Manchester United and Argentina said that as he hopes that Messi would reconsider and reflect on his decision. He also added that he speak in the heated because it was the great opportunity that we escaped. Sergio also becomes emotional on the Messi decision on the retirement and he says that he can’t imagine the Argentina national team without Messi.
