Madhur Bhandarkar Feels Proud over Trend of Women-Centric Films


The director of upcoming Indian drama film Calendar Girls, Madhur Bhandarkar appears to be so happy over the trend of women-centric films as it was launched by him years ago which is being raised by Bollywood’s other filmmakers.



Bhandarkar considers the only filmmaker, who has been filming on real life subjects through his movies. He described that he took inspiration from business tycoon Vijay Mallya and ex-calendar girls for filming of upcoming project Calendar Girls.

Bhandarkar said at trailer launch, “The film is 75 percent real and 25 percent fictional. It is inspired by few (ex) calendar girls and photographers. I have researched a lot on them,”

The National Award winning filmmaker tries to reflect the real life story of five models who gained popularity after their appearances in a calendar nut unfortunately the plot turns towards an unexpected side which appears to be most terrible.

He believes Indian businessman and politician Vijay Mallya and Calendar Girls’ real life experience remained so helpful for filming as well as gained unique ideas to capture the moments in real way.

He told in continue speech, “I took inspiration for this film from Vijay Mallya. I share a good relationship with him. He is a nice person and is aware that I am making the film,”


The director began trend of female protagonists with Chandni Bar, Fashion, Page 3, Corporate and Heroine and with this, top Bollywood actress as like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif have gained their expected destinations in Indian film industry.

However, Akanksha Puri, Avani Modi, Kyra Dutt, Ruhi Singh, Satarupa Pyne, Suhel Seth, and Ronit Roy will be seen in this film which slated to be released on 25 September 2015.
